Oia Oia! Day 11 + GIVEAWAY!

I have always wanted to go to Santorini.  When we planned our trip Mitch said that there just wasn’t going to be time, so instead of vetoing it, he called the airline and had them change our return flight to one day later!  That man!  We took a flight from Athens early in the morning and headed to the island of Thira aka Santorini.  I didn’t realize that Santorini was more than just the white buildings on the oceanside.  Each beach is SO different from each other.  My brother-in-laws girlfriend (wow that’s a lot haha) had told us to rent a 4-wheeler but we had totally forgotten.  And this was our biggest regret of the entire trip.  Since we had forgotten Mitch had found out all the details for us to take the bus to Oia, where all the white buildings are.  We got there early morning and it was dead, which was so nice because we felt like we had the whole little town to ourselves.  We walked around and explored and just rested.  Which we hadn’t gotten to do during the entire trip.

The water was amazing.  The perfect shade of blue and completely clear.  The colors of the white buildings, next to the rock, next to the perfectly blue ocean.  I mean, it was like we were living in a painting.  Mitch had planned for me to be able to take a donkey ride up and down to the ocean but the donkey guy apparently wasn’t out yet and we didn’t feel like waiting so we took the trek down.  Not going to lie, it’s a hike! haha!  We explored all over the rocks to Amouldi Bay and I ALMOST jumped off of one of the big rocks.  We were out so early that no one else was out to ask if it was safe and I didn’t want to risk jumping in to a shallow area so I didn’t do it.  Now that I have internet and can google, I totally should have done it!  That’s apparently the thing to do at Amouldi Bay haha!  We loved Oia, but it is a very quiet place.  We decided that we want to come back and get a cave house for a few nights because I feel like that’s how you enjoy Oia.

After a few hours in Oia, we decided to go ahead to the next place so we caught the bus back to the central station so that we could head to another beach.  This was when we remembered the little bit about the 4-wheelers.  We didn’t have time to do 2 beaches by bus but if we had a 4-wheeler we could, so we set out to find one.  They are $25 for 24 hours (what a steal!) but we only had like 5 hours left on the island haha!  So we just decided to do one beach instead of renting one.  But seriously, if you go, do the 4-wheelers.  We ended up spending just about $25 on bus fares and we didn’t get to see the whole island- which you could if you have a 4-wheeler!  After asking the opinion of all of the locals we decided to go to Black Sand Beach aka Perissa.  We were going to do Red Beach but figured it might look similar to Lake Powell so we would rather be safe than sorry and see a black sand beach and it’s one of the biggest party beaches so lots of music and fun!  We got there and realized that we were both completely exhausted from all the days before.  So we just grabbed a padded chair (they are all free) and fell asleep to the party music haha!  When we woke up we walked along the beach and got in the water then headed back to the bus.

Once we got back in to town we decided to WALK to the airport and dinner.  Yup.  Skip the bus because we had some extra time.  dumb dumb dumb dumb.  To the airport would have been fine but to the airport AND dinner was a bad idea.  On our maps it said that dinner and the airport were super close.  They weren’t.  And you have to hike up a mountain to get to the restaurant.  And I was seriously about to pee my pants the entire time.  Tons of strangers stopped and offered us rides because we had to walk along the major roads with our freaking heavy backpacks, but we didn’t want to take the chance of being abducted so we just trekked along.  I mean, this is backpacking in Europe ya’ll.  By the time we go to the place I was in tears because I had to pee so bad.  The hostess felt so bad for us that she gave us a table even though they were totally booked for the night.  She also gave us extra dessert.  It was amazing.  Remember the thing about how they don’t do dessert but they bring you a free plate of fruit after your meal?  Well, this place did a free dessert for each person.  I have no idea what it was but it was so good.  The food was incredible too, but the dessert was the best part.  It was almost dark so we started walking to the airport through these fields, felt like we were going to get killed, thought we were there but it was actually a military base and we had to walk around the whole base then around the entire airport to the other side and we finally made it.  It was crazy haha!  But it was definitely a fun adventure!  We will be back Santorini, don’t you worry!  But next time we are going to do it big!  4-wheelers and a cave house and taxis and massages and whatever else to make up for all the craziness of the first visit! haha!

I brought along a bathing suit from Billiejo Clothing for our trip to Greece and it was so perfect!  I felt good and it looked good in all of our fun trip pictures!  It was comfortable enough that I wore it on our flight to and from Santorini too!  And the quality was so great that it went through a couple of beach days, lots of walking and travel in it and it still looks great!  Plus, did I mention how cute it is?!  Seriously, I am obsessed with it.  They have a huge selection and are always coming out with new styles and patterns!  Seriously, every other week I am googly eyed over their new lines.  ALL of the suits are handmade so lots of love, time and craftsmanship goes in to each suit to make them each unique and perfect.  To check out their entire collection click HERE!  And be on the lookout for a GIVEAWAY for a free suit tomorrow on my instagram: @rockabyebabyblog
